Miracle N.D.O Tom Big-Harry, Ph.D, has described Governor Wike’s profiling of State owned University lecturers, proscription of Youths Groups and sanctioning of Traditional rulers whose communities still harbor bandits etc as most appropriate and a calculated step towards tackling insecurity in the state.
The chaplain of the vigilante Group Nigeria, Rivers State command made this know in an interview with our Reporters at his Residence, along Njemanze Street/ Abonnema Wharf Road, Port Harcourt, as he applauds the giant strides of Governor Nyesom Wike on security matters.
According to him, “the sanction of Traditional Rulers whose communities involve in such barbaric killings, kidnapping, cultism etc is a welcome development, because these leaders are aware of such
ill-begotten activities and give deaf ears and blind eyes to it because it had been alleged that some of them are patrons to these boys, or as it may be some of the cult boys are their children.
“Therefore the action of Governor Wike will checkmate the activities of the Traditional Rulers and their communities. Chief
security officers. have failed in their responsibilities to assist the Nigeria Police and other sister security agencies in
bringing tranquility to their domains.
“Finally, they know these boys to their homes but refuse to report them to the security agencies for proper actions, either as a result of intimidation from the boys or intentionally fueling these social
vices against those who are job loyal to them”
On the prescribing of the youths groups and their activities in the state, Dr. Miracle Tom Big Harry described the Governor’s action as very direct and reasonable because the youth is seen as mostly
responsible for the breakdown of law and order in the society, stating that about 90% of the youths think they are above the law and the Traditional Institutions thereby taking laws into their hands and this
brings about the youths unlawfully rising against constituted authorities.
“Most of the youths gatherings are built on hooliganism, and criminality and this should stop, let all efforts be channeled towards uniting them to be submissive to their local authorities to avoid more chaos or crashes in the State.
He finally applauded the Governor on the profiling of the lecturers,
saying “The screening of the lecturers is very vital since many of the lecturers are accused of either belonging to one cult group or the other or aiding them as instruments to victimize and intimidate
innocent ones or rival cult group members at different levels. This is responsible for the clashes in our higher institutions.
“I believe the screening will help in no small way to eradicate cultism in our universities.
“And in spite of all these, the solution is average but it is the basics to lay proper foundation for proper security investigation and prosecution”
He however advised Governor Nyesom Wike to extend the profiling to politicians in the state who harbor, sponsor and encourage these cult groups to intimidate and eliminate their opponents or better still to snatch ballot boxes during elections.
According to him the politicians should have been the first set of people to be screened by the DSS.
Dr. Miracle Tom-big Harry opined that the above measures will not automatically eradicate insecurity but a foundational plane which will give birth to at least 75% success to achieving victory over
insecurity in the state; and this will attract foreign investors to the state.
“The truth remains that throughout the federation, Governor Wike
remains the best in relating with the security agencies and sponsoring
them against all odds only in a bid to tackle insecurity in Rivers
State”.
