In a bid to contribute to the promotion and development of Bayelsa State, the management of a new Yenagoa-based broadcast station, Golden 97.5FM, has disclosed its readiness to partner with the state government.
The Managing Director of the station, Chinenye Okafor, accompanied by the Station Manager, Mr. Micheal Emenyonu, made this known during a courtesy visit to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, at Government House, Yenagoa, recently.
She assured that the media outfit would serve as partners in the progress of the state and would carry out its duties professionally to promote the activities of the state government.
She expressed delight that the media organization enjoys free press under Governor Douye Diri’s administration. She also commended the governor’s spokesperson for the warm reception, his positive relationship with the media, and his efforts in projecting the activities of the governor and the state government effectively.
The Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, congratulated the new station and appreciated them for their visit to the state. He welcomed the latest addition to the Bayelsa media space and urged the station to maintain professionalism and engage in responsible broadcasting and programming that would benefit the people of the state.
“As the Governor’s spokesman, my job entails building a robust relationship with the media in recognition of their significant role in promoting the government’s activities. The media is what brings light to government’s activities. Your best effort and achievements would be akin to winking in the dark if they are not projected by the media. So, the media is a very important partner of any government all over the world while performing its basic role of informing, educating, and entertaining people,” he said.
He noted that Governor Diri’s administration is media-friendly and encourages responsible journalism and constructive criticism while abhorring media censorship. The governor believes in the freedom of the press and enjoins the media to promote unity and peace at all times while reporting.
