Cash Madam, Adebisi Edionseri Dies at 89, Funeral Set for Monday

Prominent Nigerian socialite, Adebisi Edionseri, popularly known as Cash Madam, has passed away at the age of 89. Her family, through a statement issued by one of her sons, Adebayo Adebowale, disclosed that she died on Sunday after a brief illness.

 

Cash Madam, a well-known figure in Nigeria’s social circles for decades, was celebrated for her passion for fashion, style, beauty, entrepreneurial ventures, and her vibrant lifestyle. Renowned Juju music legend, Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey, gave her the moniker “Cash Madam” in the 1980s. A millionaire since the late 1970s, she was also recognized for her generosity towards musicians.

Late Fuji icon, Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, honored her in 2004 with a 47-minute track titled “Cash Madam” on his album Reality.

 

Reflecting on her achievements, Adebayo said, “Cash Madam rose to fame for her business prowess, often transporting substantial amounts of sales proceeds, comprising coins and notes, to Barclays Bank (now Union Bank), where she was allocated a dedicated room and team of cashiers to process her transactions.”

 

Funeral Arrangements as announced by the family will take place on Monday at 4 p.m. at her residence in the Government Reservation Area (GRA), Ibara, Abeokuta, following Islamic traditions.

Paying tribute, her son described her as a paragon of grace, dignity, and faith. “Princess Edionseri impacted many lives with her wisdom, kindness, and dedication to family and community. She embodied love, resilience, and trust in Allah, leaving behind an inspiring legacy for generations.”

 

As the family mourns her loss, they also celebrate her extraordinary life. “Her laughter, warmth, and the values she instilled will always remain in our hearts, guiding us as we move forward without her physical presence,” the statement concluded.
