The Government of Belgium has expressed readiness to partner Rivers State Government in providing solutions in both the health sector and environmental clean up in the Ogoni area of the State.
This was disclosed to newsmen yesterday, by the Belgium Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Peter Leenknegt after an audience with Gov. Siminalayi Fubara in Government House, Port Harcourt.
Leenknegt noted his visit is for an introductory meeting to compare programmes with the governor and outline areas of mutual interest.
“I introduced the governor also to a Belgium business man and representative of the Chamber of Commerce. This also means some solutions in the health sector not only in Rivers State, but across Nigeria, particularly, in the hospitals in Port Harcourt and environs.
He said the meeting afforded them the opportunity to also exchange ideas on the possibilities of environmental clean up in the Ogoniland with the kind of technological solutions from Belgium.
Mr. Leenknegt stated, “We have discussed governance issues generally. It was a very insightful meeting. It is my first time to meet with the governor and to read his mind on the most important issues at hand in the State.”
