Akwa Ibom Assembly uncovers allege plot to frame Speaker on terrorism charges

The Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly has on Monday said it has uncovered a plot by some opposition elements in the state to frame the Speaker of the Assembly, Onofiok Luke, on terrorism charges.

The Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly, Kufre Okon, gave the indication on Tuesday while responding to questions on the alleged plot against the Speaker in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.

He said that intelligence at the disposal of the state House of Assembly has revealed that the hoodlums were allegedly working in connivance with the police to plant explosives and other dangerous weapons around him with the intention to frame terrorism charges against him and have him detained until after the elections.
“Intelligence available to us has revealed that some opposition elements have been after the Speaker for some time now, they are planning to plant certain things around his house both in the town and in his village to either kidnap or frame him on terrorism charges.

“The Speaker has alerted the people of Akwa Ibom to this during his campaign tour of Nsit-Ibum on Saturday and as we speak you would have noticed there is heavy security presence around the state and in his house”. Okon said.

Reacting to the allegation, the Spokesperson to the All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom state, Eseme Eyiboh, said whoever was making such allegation should prove it beyond all reasonable doubts, adding that as a lawyer, the Speaker himself should prove it.

He alleged that recent developments around the House of Assembly have shown that the Speaker is negligence in the act of governance, stressing that the Speaker should search his mind and conscience whether they were clean.

“Whoever is alleging that should prove it, the Speaker is a lawyer so he is in a good position to prove the allegation.

Recent happenings have shown his delinquency in governance. He forgets that democracy is governed by law, he is showing traits of immaturity in governance.” He said.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon,who earlier demanded for a text message as he was in a meeting, could not comment on the allegation as at the time of filing this report, as he could not respond to the text message sent to his phone.
