Abia Commissioner Lauds Ikpeazu’s Wife, Speaker, Over Passage Of Disability Law

 

 

The Abia State Commissioner for Special Duties and Vulnerable Groups, Hon. Chisom Nwachukwu has applauded the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly,Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji and members of the 7th House of Assembly for the recent passage of the Disability bill into law.

 

The law for the establishment of Abia State welfare for the disabled persons seeks to cater for the welfare of persons living with disability in the state.

Speaking with Journalists in Umuahia,Hon. Nwachukwu who recalled that the Governor’s wife, Dr Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu, in 2021 addressed the House of Assembly on the need to pass the disability bill, thanked the Abia First Lady for her commitment in ensuring that the bill is passed.

The Commissioner while noting that the presence of a legal framework would guarantee the protection of the rights and dignity of the vulnerable members of the society, thanked Governor Okezie Ikpeazu led administration for its commitment to the welfare and protection of lives of Abians living with disabilities.

 

Hon Nwachukwu appreciated the leadership and members of the disability community in Abia state for their steadfastness and resilience in advocating for the passage of the bill adding that the bill would meet the aspirations of persons with special needs.

He expressed confidence that the bill would soon be assented to by the Governor and implemented to give persons living with disability a sense of belonging.

 

“Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is committed to the welfare of persons living with disabilities that is why he created the Ministry of Special Duties and Vulnerable Groups to identify and tackle issues concerning their welfare.

“The present adminstration will continue to carry along persons living with disabilities as well as tackle challenges facing them and i am optimistic that the governor would speedily assent to this bill”,Hon Nwachukwu stated.
