Rotary Club of Umuahia North Partners YALI, Rotaract Clubs plant trees in Civil Service Secretariat.


The President of Rotary Club of Umuahia North, Rtn Uchechukwu Udeji has said that planting trees geared towards safeguarding the climate and environment, is part of area of focus of Rotary International.

Executing the tree planting program in partnership with Young African Leaders Initiative Abia Chapter, Rotaract Club of Umuahia CB and Rotaract Club of Madonna College of Health Technology, at the Civil Service Secretariat, Umuahia, Udeji said that Rotary discourages deforestation, but always urge people to beautify the environment by either planting beauty trees or economic trees.

“This is one of the area of focus of Rotary International, So on one or two occasions we visited this place, we deem it fit to invest our little resources to encourage the environment and also wish that these trees would be taken good care of so that tomorrow it may be used as a shade in future environment

“Before we embark on our project we actually do the needs assessment and facilities study to know what the people we are going to do our project really need.

“We came here and found out that the place is not properly beautified and then the one they have already is not planted with directions and plan .

“That is why we choose planting of masquerade trees believing it would add more beauty at the New secretariat. As we are aware, we cannot leave everything for government that’s why we chose to come and plant trees here”.

In his speech, Rotn. Chigozie Ogbonna said as part of the focus area of Rotary International, the Rotary Club of Umuahia North decided to embark on tree planting today to beautify the environment and to improve on its esthetics .

He enjoined Abians to embark on tree planting to protect our environments and also to protect our buildings

 

 

Also Speaking, the State Coordinator Young African Leaders Initiative Abia Chapter, Mr. Paul Lord OKpara, said it is the vision of the Organization to see that the aesthetic value of the state is improved.

Okpara said, “We are here basically to plant trees and we are doing this in partnership with Rotary Club Umuahia North and the Rotaract Clubs of Madonna College of Health Technology and Umuahia Community Based. This exercise is part of what we are doing to save the environment as the people of Abia State”.

Responding on behalf of the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Lands and Housing, TPL Ukeje Ukpabi, the Director of Administration, Mrs Chinemere Udensi appreciated the Club’s concern about the need to save the environment for the unborn generation through collaborative efforts.

He pointed out that the trees would further beautify the premises of the State Civil Service Secretariat.
