Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has congratulated Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, on her historic election as the first woman democratically elected President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), describing the achievement as a major milestone for the legal profession and women’s leadership in Nigeria.
In a statement signed by the Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, the Council said Badejo-Okusanya’s emergence as the 33rd President of the NBA demonstrates that competence, integrity and visionary leadership are the true qualities that define effective leadership.
The Council noted that her election represents not only a personal accomplishment but also a victory for Nigerian women and young professionals striving to break barriers through hard work, merit and excellence.
It observed that the development is particularly significant as Comrade Grace Ike recently became the first female Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council in its 43-year history, describing the emergence of women to lead two of Nigeria’s foremost professional bodies as a clear indication of growing acceptance of inclusive and merit-based leadership.
The NUJ FCT Council expressed confidence that Badejo-Okusanya’s administration would strengthen the NBA’s legacy of promoting the rule of law, constitutional democracy and the protection of human rights while advancing reforms in the justice sector.
The Council also reaffirmed its commitment to working with the legal profession to promote democratic governance, accountability, press freedom and the rule of law.
It wished the President-elect a successful and impactful tenure, expressing optimism that her leadership would inspire more women to pursue leadership positions and leave a lasting legacy in the legal profession.
