Another batch of 20 electric buses has arrived in Abia State as Governor Alex Otti continues to fulfil his promise of providing a modern, reliable, and comfortable public transportation system for the people.
The arrival of the buses marks another important step in the state government’s efforts to improve transportation across Abia. The government has remained committed to making it easier for residents to travel safely, comfortably, and at an affordable cost.
According to the state government, the buses are fully electric and not Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses, as some rumours have suggested. Officials explained that the government signed an agreement with the supplier for the buses to be transported by truck from Lagos to Abia. This arrangement is meant to protect the buses from damage while they are being delivered to the state.
The government also made it clear that the buses will not begin carrying passengers immediately. They will first undergo thorough inspections, testing, and other necessary checks to ensure they meet all safety and quality standards before they are put into public service.
Each of the 20 buses is fitted with modern features designed to make travelling more convenient for passengers. They include special access for people living with disabilities, making it easier for them to board and travel comfortably. The buses also have luggage compartments, making them suitable for intercity travel and passengers carrying personal belongings.
Governor Otti’s administration believes that electric buses are the future of public transportation because they are environmentally friendly, produce no harmful emissions, and cost less to operate and maintain over time. The government says this investment will not only improve transportation but also help create a cleaner and healthier environment for the people of Abia.
The state government further disclosed that another 30 electric buses are expected to arrive soon. It urged residents to ignore false reports claiming that Abia is purchasing CNG buses, stressing that the government remains fully committed to its electric bus programme.
When all the buses are fully deployed, residents are expected to enjoy better public transportation, shorter waiting times, safer journeys, and more comfortable travel. The expanded fleet is also expected to reduce transportation challenges, improve movement within and outside the state, and support economic activities.
The arrival of another 20 electric buses is yet another sign of the Otti administration’s determination to modernise public transportation and improve the quality of life for the people of Abia State. As more buses arrive and begin operation, residents can look forward to a more efficient, reliable, and environmentally friendly transport system.
