Mrs. Otti seeks Nigeria Police partnership to eradicate gender based violence in Abia

The wife of the Governor of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Otti has call on the Nigeria Police for partnership in the fight against gender-based violence.

Mrs. Otti made the call at the Police Area Command Headquarters in Umuahia today when she paid an advocacy visit to the Comissioner of Police in Abia State, CP. Danladi Isa.

The Governor’s wife commended the Nigeria police in their efforts to combat crime and other security related issues in the state.

During the visit, Mrs. Otti emphasized that gender based violence today affects both men, women and children thereby undermining the moral fabrics of the society.

However, the Abia First Lady solicits the Nigeria Police to partner with her in the areas of investigating cases of GBV, timely prosecution of offenders and holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.

She maintained that trusting police support in these areas will make victims of gender-based violence come forward with their cases and with the assurance that they will get justice.

In her contributions, the commissioner for women affairs in Abia State, Dr Maureen Aghukwa said that the advocacy visit was part of the activities to mark the 16 days of activism and 30 years celebration of the Beijing conference to end all forms of violence in the society.

She said that every stakeholder is being called to get involved in the fight against gender based violence.

Earlier, the Commissioner of Police in Abia state, CP. Danladi Isa assured Mrs. Otti of the Nigeria Police unalloyed collaboration and support to eradicate gender based violence.

He expressed that the police attached serious importance to cases of gender based violence and has gone ahead to assigned a desk officer to handle such cases.

“Be assured that we will use every strategy to combat this menace,” CP. Danladi assured.

He commended Governor Otti, for his support to root out criminal elements in Abia State.

“We have strategically partitioned the state security situation and put men of the Nigeria police into such volatile areas, though it might be a bit inconvenience for commuters now but at the meantime it will nip crimes at the bud,” CP. Danladi further stated.
