Help Boost Abia IGR, Gov Ikpeazu Tasks Legal Practitioners

 

Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has declared open the 2nd Edition of Law Week of the State’s Chapter of Law Officers Association of Nigeria.

 

Speaking at he Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, Gov. Ikpeazu represented by his Deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, challenged law officers to assist the Government beef up the Internally Generated Revenue by prosecuting revenue defaulters in the State.

Dr Ikpeazu further charged them to help reduce criminality in the State and Nation that has taken new dimensions as a result of development in technology and current events and prosecute criminals accordingly.

 

The Governor congratulated the law Officers on the celebration of their law week and urged them to share ideas, evaluate situations, current developments in their legal profession and devise ways of meeting with future challenges.

He described the theme of the Law Week ” Generation Next” as very significant and timely especially in the face of new development and innovations in their profession and reassured that the present administration will continue to do their best in reaching out to their needs.

In her remarks, the Acting Chief Judge, Justice Lilian Abai represented by the Chief Registrar, Judiciary High Court of Justice, Umuahia, Chief Magistrate VC Okey- Nwokeukwu implored the law Officers to be deligent and thorough in going through their briefs as well as ensure that honesty, transparency and truthfulness remain their watchword in the dispensation of justice.

Also speaking, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice described lawyers as dependable ally and points of contact in justice dispensation and warned that laziness, lausiness abstaining from attending Court sessions will not be tolerated as the present administration will continue to appreciate hard work and commitment to duty.

In his remarks, the SSG, Barr. Chris Ezem challenged the Law Officers to uphold the virtues of the profession and jettison selfish and self-centered attitudes in discharging their duties.

The event featured a lecture presentation by the keynote speaker and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mazi Afam Osigwe titled “The Next Generation” and unveiling of the 2023 Law Diary by the Governor’s representative , Sir Ude Oko Chukwu attracted the presence of Top Government Officials, the Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Barr. Uzoamaka Uche Ikonne, legal luminaries and other notable personalities.
