Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has described unity among Nigeria youths as a great asset towards creating an enduring positive impacts in the development of the country.
Fubara disclosed this when he received in audience, the National President of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo and members of his national executive on a visit to Government House, Port Harcourt yesterday.
He charged them to embrace peace in totality to make meaningful progress in life.
Gov Fubara who identified youth as pivotal to national growth said the forging of unity among Nigeria youths under the leadership of Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, a Rivers son has averted some negative social consequences such as protests which are mostly ignited by internal wrangling.
He assured that his administration will continue to give priority attention to youths development and urged youth to be good ambassadors of the State and the country at large.
“You can imagine if this Youth Council is so divided there will be trouble in this country but because you are united even when you were facing a difficult situation and when the country is facing any challenge that will warrant people to protest, you come together and say no, for this reason we will allow it this way.”
“It is a strong voice that is also contributing to the unity of this country. So you don’t need to be scared, you are doing the right thing, and stand on the path of truth.”
“What you have come to do in Rivers State is to tell the world that Rivers State is safe, moving, friendly and above all ready anytime to receive and admit people that are coming to make positive impact in the State.”
Gov. Fubara expressed delight that the hitherto divided and factionalised National Youth Council is now working as one entity stressing, “It means there is something that you have and you have gone there to use it to put our youths together.”
“You have not got this youth body together with any other thing, it is your accepting to make sacrifice for the interest of the Council. And I am happy that everywhere today, we are feeling the effect of the unity that the National Youth Council is enjoying today.”
He noted that “As a government when we got the letter notifying us of the 60th anniversary and also coming from our own son we needed to do what we could do to make sure that the programme succeeds. So what we did, we didn’t do personally, it is our responsibility as a government, and our duty that we owe as our son to support you. So, we are happy that today that programme was successful.”
The Governor who commended the National Youth leader for forging unity among the youth, urged him not to be deterred by challenges but be spurred by them to do what is right and be more productive in their life endeavours.
“Don’t worry about any challenge, do what you know that is right. When you are doing the right thing you don’t need to be worried. When you are doing something that 20 years or 25 years coming that you can defend it you don’t need to be worried. It is only when you are doing the wrong thing that is when you are scared.”
According to him, “You are doing the right thing, you are bringing the youths together. Look, if there is any problem we have in this country today it is the issue of youths. If we are able to bring them together and that is what you are doing today.”
‘Let me finally on behalf of my family and the good people of Rivers State accept this _Beacon of Hope_ award. It means a lot. It is something that I accepted because when you see me it gives you hope.”
“I am now your role model, I assure you I will not let you people down. I will continue to do those things that will give the youths hope in this country. I will be among the group that will continue to champion the youth as the future of our country. I have shown it in my administration as many youths are involved.”
