Mothers Deserve Celebration for Their Vital Role in Society — Grace Eke

A mother, Mrs. Grace Eke, has emphasized that women play critical and exceptional roles in child upbringing, family wellbeing, and the promotion of peace and development in society.

Speaking in Port Harcourt during activities marking this year’s Mothering Sunday celebration, Mrs. Eke noted that mothers deserve recognition and appreciation for their sacrifices and commitment to their families and communities.

According to her, the best way to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of mothers is by celebrating them, as observed on Sunday, March 15, 2026. She prayed that God would continue to keep mothers alive and strong to carry on their important responsibilities in society.

In the same vein, the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, also felicitated with mothers across the state on the occasion of this year’s Mothering Sunday.

In a goodwill message issued to commemorate the day, the governor paid glowing tribute to women for their strength, resilience, and dedication to nurturing children who represent the future leaders of the nation.

Governor Fubara commended mothers for their selfless love, care, and sacrifices, describing them as the backbone of society and acknowledging their tireless efforts in shaping families and communities.

He noted that in Nigerian society, Mothering Sunday is widely celebrated as both a religious and social event. Observed on the fourth Sunday of Lent in many churches, particularly within the Anglican Communion, the day is set aside to honour mothers and maternal figures.

The celebration typically combines church services with family gatherings, gift-giving, and special recognition of the contributions of mothers to families and society at large.
