The Abia State Commissioner for Works, Engr Otumchere Oti, has undertaken an inspection tour of the ongoing reconstruction of the Bende-Ohafia–Arochukwu road, a strategic route expected to ease movement for residents and visitors during the festive season.
The road, which had long deteriorated into a death trap for motorists and commuters, is currently undergoing reconstruction after Governor Alex Otti awarded the contract to Allied Technical and Construction Company Limited. Determined to ensure quality delivery, the Commissioner, accompanied by a team of engineers, Ministry officials, and the contractor handling the project, Engr Ifeanyi Clement Okorie, visited the site for an on-the-spot assessment of the pace and standard of work.
During the inspection, Engr. Oti highlighted key observations and urged the contractors to accelerate efforts so that the project is completed within the stipulated timeframe.
He emphasized the administration’s commitment to delivering durable infrastructure that will stand the test of time.
Speaking with newsmen at the site, an indigene of Arochukwu, Madam Chinonso Michael reacted positively over the road rehabilitation which she said has been bad for decades. She thanked the Governor for remembering the people of the area in his developmental projects.
Another indigene of the area, Kalu Okoro, expressed deep appreciation to the Governor for making the long neglected Bende-Ohafia-Arochukwu road his priority. He recalled the hardship and dangers previously faced due to the road’s deplorable state, noting that the ongoing construction has already brought significant relief to commuters.
The residents equally commended the Governor’s dedication to improving infrastructure across the state and pledged their continued support for his administration’s developmental agenda.
Mr Chinkwe Onyekachi, a builder who resides in Arochukwu, said the reconstruction of the road will boost economic activities in the area among others benefits, commending the Governor’s gesture.
