In a bid to boost hygiene and a good sanitation system in the State, the Cross River State Government has embarked on an awareness campaign to educate the rural Communities on the need to adopt the WASH health system in order to improve healthcare in the area.
The programme which aims at improving healthcare through the provision of water, sanitation and hygiene healthcare facilities in order to prevent infections and sicknesses, is being organised by the State’s Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWATSSA) in collaboration with Self Help Africa (SHA).
According to the leader of the groups , Mr Felix Irek , Obubra Local Government Council was chosen as the location to hold the event because of constant outbreak of Cholera in the area.
With the provision of WASH healthcare system and the sencitazation of the people, Cholera and other diseases will be prevented.
The member representing Obubra Constituency 2 in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Egbe Abeng appreciated the organisers of the programme, describing it as a vital step towards improving Community health and hygiene.
Also appreciating the organisers for choosing Obubra as host for the programme, the Chairman of Obubra Local Government Council Hon. Kingsley Arikpo commended the State and Self Help Africa for introducing access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene healthcare system in the rural areas , which he said remains a top development priority in the rural Communities.
He further assured the organisers the Council’s readiness and support in making sure that the programme succeeds in the area.
During the event, participants deliberated on strategies to strengthen the WASH system, for sustainable and accountable service delivery across the State.
