A group under the aegies of Olokoro Political Youth Front, on Friday purchased the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) expression of interest and nomination forms for Abia lawmaker, Barr. Jerry Uzosike.
Recall that the youths had on February 17th 2022, unanimously endorsed Hon. Barr. Jerry Uzosike for a second tenure in office as Member representing Umuahia South State Constituency at the Abia House of Assembly and resolved to purchase the party’s form for the lawnmower. The youths had also threatened to sue him to court should he decline recontesting in the 2023 general elections.
President of the Olokoro Youth Political Front, Mr Pius Ekeleme, while offically presenting the forms to Uzosike at his Umuahia South State Constituency office in Umuahia, said that the gesture was in fulfillment of their earlier promise to purchase the forms.
Ekeleme said that the decision was informed by the desire of the group to ensure that a “round peg remains in a round hole” for the achievement of good governance in the constituency.
According to him, the importance of effective representation could not be overemphasised, adding that the lawmaker had proven that he has the capacity to advance the development of the area through effective representation.
“On February 17, we promised to purchase expression of interest and nomination forms for Hon Uzosike, and we have come to keep that promise.
“Hon Uzosike has redefined representation through his track record of achievements and he has the wherewithal to continue to represent the people of Umuahia South State constituency”,Ekeleme said.
He assured that the people of the area would give Hon. Uzosike the maximum support to ensure he emerges victorious.
Responding, the highly related lawmaker representing Umuahia South State Constituency, Barr. Jerry Uzosike, said he was overwhelmed by the gesture and expressed gratitude for the love shown to him by the group.
He said the gesture was a clear indication that his constituents were pleased with his performance and pledged to continuously give effective representation.
“I have always purchased forms for myself but this is the first time someone is purchasing form for me and I promise to extend this gesture to other people that are willing to serve.
“I am challenged by this gesture and will do more to improve the welfare of my constituents as well as protect their interest,” he said.
Uzosike promised that he would continue to introduce initiatives and programmes that would encourage socioeconomic advancement of his constituency.
The ceremony attracted the presence of councilors from different Wards Umuahia South, DG & Members of the Ogechi Cares Foundation as well as various Pro-Groups in Umuahia South LGA.
