Abia State Government has donated two Hilux security vehicles to the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The donations are part of efforts geared towards supporting security agencies and ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state.

Presenting the vehicles to the two agencies on behalf of the state government, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Navy Commander MacDonald Ubah (rtd.), disclosed that the governor had initially decided to support both the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Nigeria Correctional Service with vehicles, while also promising to carry out repairs on vehicles in their fleets.
“This is a promise fulfilled. The Governor had actually said that he would support both the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Nigeria Correctional Service with a brand-new Hilux, and has also gone ahead to carry out repairs on some of the vehicles in their fleets”, he said.

Commander Ubah further stated that the vehicles were meant to enhance the operational capabilities of the two agencies in the state and enable them to discharge their duties effectively.
“By this, I expect the Federal Road Safety Corps to ensure that they bring down the number of crashes in the state to the barest minimum.
“I also enjoin the Nigeria Correctional Service to superintend over their inmates more effectively, as well as ensuring that they are taken to court as and when due.”

Speaking to news men after receiving the vehicle, the Abia State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ngozi Ezeoma, appreciated the Governor for the gesture.
She noted that Governor Otti had demonstrated commitment towards the safety of lives and property in Abia State.

“I want to assure Abians that this vehicle will be properly utilised to strengthen road traffic management and safety administration in Abia State.”
“And ensure that road crashes are brought to the barest minimum, with zero fatality in Abia State.” Ezeoma stated.

Also speaking, the Abia State Comptroller of Corrections, Blessing Iwuanyanwu, on behalf of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Nwakauche Ndidi, thanked the Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, for providing the service with an operational vehicle.
She commended the Governor’s positive efforts towards improving the operations and welfare of the Nigeria Correctional Service in the state.

“The office where I’m staying, there used to be no gate, but today, we have a gate there courtesy of the governor, and also, the fence which was destroyed has been rebuilt by the Governor”.
The Comptroller further stressed that “light used to be a problem in the office, but today, there is availability of power.”

The Correctional services boss noted that the availability of the vehicle would help the service take inmates to court as and when due.
“It will help us take our inmates to court as and when due. The governor has also made my work easier in Abia State, and I thank him for that”, Iwuanyanwu stated.

She thanked the governor for his support and promised to discharge her duties in the state to the best of her abilities.
