An elder statesman in Rivers state Victor Wodi says the state is saddened over the unfortunate incident of stamped that took place yesterday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium, venue of the All Progressive Congress APC presidential campaign rally were 14 persons have been reported dead.
Mr Wodi said the ugly situation would have been adverted if the organizers had taken some precautions relating to crowed management in a secured environment.
He however commensurate with families of those who lost their lives during the stamped at the APC campaign rally.
University Of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital UPTH says 14 dead bodies were brought in from the scene of stamped at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium of the APC campaign rally yesterday. Public relation officer of the hospital Ken Elebiga who made this known to our reporters could not ascertain the number of those currently at the accident and emergency ward of the hospital as at the time of filling this report. Messages were sent to all doctors at the teaching hospital including those who were not on call to also join in treating the wounded.
Recall that a stamped had occurred when crowd of APC supporters attempted to make their way through the only exit that was opened as president Muhammadu Buhari and his campaign team were leaving the stadium.
On the contrary, Rivers state police command says 4 persons were killed and 4 others in critical condition at the hospital from the scene of the stamped at the Adokiye Amesimaka stadium. Spokes person of state police command Nnamdi Omoni said that the command has deployed adequate security personnel, and the commissioner of police has ordered an investigation into the cause of the stamped.
