Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency in the 2027 House of Representatives election, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, has called on residents of the constituency to embrace environmentally responsible practices as the world commemorates World Environment Day 2026.
In a statement marking the global observance, Anyaso described the environment as a critical asset that underpins human health, agriculture, economic growth, and sustainable development, stressing that its protection is a shared responsibility.
He noted that many communities across Bende Federal Constituency depend largely on farming and local commerce for their livelihoods, warning that environmental challenges such as erosion, land degradation, poor waste management, and neglect of ecological resources continue to threaten farmlands, homes, roads, and sources of income.
According to him, deliberate efforts to protect the environment are essential for safeguarding livelihoods and ensuring sustainable development for future generations.
Anyaso urged residents to adopt practical environmental conservation measures, including tree planting, proper waste disposal, and sustainable land-use practices.
He emphasized that coordinated action by individuals, communities, and relevant stakeholders would help preserve agricultural lands, reduce the impact of erosion, and promote a cleaner and healthier environment.
“As we commemorate World Environment Day 2026, let us recommit ourselves to protecting our environment for the benefit of present and future generations. Together, we can build a cleaner, greener, and more prosperous Bende,” he said.
The Labour Party standard-bearer reiterated that environmental sustainability remains vital to the long-term prosperity and well-being of the people, calling on residents to play active roles in preserving nature and protecting community resources.
“Our environment remains our greatest asset. Its protection is our collective responsibility,” Anyaso stated.
