Relocation of Isi-gate Market: Abia D.Gov meets with Okwulaga-Afaraukwu people.

Abia State government has expressed its preparedness to relocate the Isi-gate market in Umuahia, the capital city.

Interacting with the delegation from Okwulaga-Afaraukwu autonomous community, Ibeku clan in Umuahia North L.G.A, led by the traditional ruler, HRM Eze Eddie Ibeabuachi in his office at Government House Umuahia. The Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, said the essence of the relocation was to give the capital city the desired facelift.

He pointed out that the government’s action as it affects the relocation of the market to Umuizu-Okwulaga would be cherished by generations. In his words “What we are doing today is to lay a foundation that posterity will judge us aright and those that will come after us will look at what we have done today and say that we did it with our clear mind”.

Engr. Emetu who further disclosed plans of the government led by Governor Alex Otti for Isi-gate axis of Umuahia, which include; constructing a mini bridge to curtail the headaches of traffic jam among other people-orinted and people -centric plans for Umuahia.

While appreciating Umuizu-Okwulaga and the entire Okwulaga-Afaraukwu community for their support towards the relocation of the market to their community, Engr. Emetu described the new market site as laudable and welcome development.

Also in his speech, the General Manager Umuahia Capital Development Authority, UCDA Mr. Kingsley Agomuo, said that where the market is situated at Isi-gate was not befitting to the state, hence the need for its relocation.

He also disclosed that the motor park operating at the Isi-gate has also been moved to Okigwe park while plans are on top gear to build a bus terminal where the whole buses would operate from.

In their respective speeches, the traditional ruler of Okwulaga-Afaraukwu autonomous community, HRM Eze Eddie Ibeabuachi and the Chairman of Umuizu-Okwulaga Mr. Amarachi Alozie, Market relocation community committee chairman, Chief Emeka Ezebuiro appreciated Gov. Otti’s efforts towards boosting the aesthetic status of Umuahia and Abia as a whole.

They assured of their support and commitment to see to the realization/actualization of the market project in their community.
