The first ever 24-hour radio station in Abia state, Rapid FM 96.5MHz, has started full broadcasting in the state.
Speaking with newsmen on behalf of Rapid Broadcasting Network Limited; owners of Rapid Radio and Television, in Umuahia, Abia state, the Head of Station, Mr. John Nkamiang described the radio station as the realization of a long-held desire to bring unceasing entertainment to the People of Abia state and adjoining cities through top range content delivery backed by world class technology and thorough professional anchors.
Nkamiang disclosed that Rapid FM would be dominant in lifestyle, culture, entertainment, sports, news and current affairs among others.
This, he said, will intensely appeal to all layers of the society, maintaining that the brand seeks to engage the youths, women, adults, and diverse income classes meaningfully.
In his words: “We aim to be among like leading trusted sources of lifestyle news, cultural exposition and entertainment on Africa and its people, as we will connect with our African diaspora via our active online assets”.
The Head of Station further revealed that Rapid FM will adopt a language mix of English, Igbo and Pidgin English, aimed at pacy urban entertainment, creative news delivery and the furtherance of entrepreneurship, liberal democracy, civic rights, and the protection of the vulnerable in the society.
“Also, as a statement of intent to be a leading multi-media brand in the South-East, the radio station has engaged an amazing pool of young talents with a backbone marque and experienced broadcasters imbued with vast institutional memory, that will set standards in radio town hall interactive experience, live on-site reporting and event coverage, compelling interviews and personality profiles”, he further added.
He described Abia state as the hub of manufacturing with enormous business potentials, adding that improved security, peaceful disposition of state in the South-East Nigeria and beyond as well as its enhanced Ease-of-doing-business, informed their decision to site the business in Abia.
Contributing, the Project Coordinator, Mr. Chukwudi P. Uzochukwu noted that Rapid FM is in Umuahia to improve the way radio and broadcasting are done in the region and to project the activities of Abia and South-East to the world.
Highlight of the event was the facility tour anchored by the station’s Head of Programmes, Bright Ejike, popularly known as ‘I go yan’ and Senior Radio Presenter of the station, Tici Barrah.
