Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has ordered the immediate repair of the flooded part of the Ogbor Hill–Azumini Road near Ovom Mechanic Village in Aba. The aim is to make the road easier and safer for motorists, residents, and business owners to use during the rainy season.
For many years, heavy rainfall has caused serious flooding on that section of the road. Whenever it rains heavily, the road becomes difficult to pass, leading to traffic, slowing down businesses, and making life harder for people who use the road every day.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, announced the governor’s decision on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, while speaking to journalists after the State Executive Council meeting.
He said Governor Otti has directed the Commissioner for Works and his team to start repair work immediately. The emergency repairs will help make the road passable while the government works on a lasting solution to the flooding problem.
Prince Kanu said people who use the Ogbor Hill–Azumini Road will soon get some relief because the Ministry of Works has been instructed to fix the flooded section near Ovom Mechanic Village.
He explained that although the road belongs to the Federal Government, the Abia State Government has repaired it several times in the last two years because it is an important road used by many residents, commuters, and businesses every day.
According to him, Governor Otti’s administration does not refuse to fix a road simply because it belongs to the Federal Government. If the road is important to the people of Abia State, the government is willing to step in and help.
Prince Kanu also said the current work is only a temporary fix to make the road usable during the rainy season. He explained that a permanent solution will require the approval and support of the Federal Government because the road is under its control.
He added that the state government will continue to work with the Federal Government to ensure that a lasting solution is found to stop the flooding.
The repair work shows the Abia State Government’s commitment to making roads safer and easier to use. It also shows the government’s determination to improve road conditions and reduce the difficulties faced by road users, especially during the rainy season.
