Governor Fubara’s Remarkable Achievements in Rivers State Capital Development

Since his swearing-in as Governor of Rivers State on May 29, 2023, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has demonstrated a clear drive for excellence in capital projects. Among his landmark initiatives is the ongoing construction of the 50.15-kilometer Port Harcourt Dual Carriage Ring Road. This project, passing through six local government areas — Port Harcourt City, Obio/Akpor, Ikwerre, Eleme, and Okrika — is nearing completion.

Before launching the Ring Road Project, Governor Fubara provided buses as palliatives to ease the transportation challenges caused by rising fuel prices. These buses offer free rides to commuters within local government areas and across Port Harcourt streets.

In road infrastructure, the Governor has completed several projects, including:

  • The 10.9-kilometer Aleto-Eteo-Ebubu Road
  • The 15.24-kilometer Emohua Team Junction (Kalabari) Road
  • The 21.5-kilometer Egbeda Internal Roads
  • The 23-kilometer Omoku-Egbema Dualized Road
  • The 27.5-kilometer Andoni Section of Unity Road
  • The 8.17-kilometer Emoh/Iyak/Ighom and Emoh/Egbolom Roads

Additionally, Governor Fubara has delivered the 12.5-kilometer Trans Kalabari Road, the 3-kilometer Opobo Ring Road, and the 12-kilometer Okehi-Eberi-Omuma Road, among others. These projects aim to improve socio-economic activities, facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce, and boost commerce in Rivers State.

In tourism, the Governor has focused on reviving the Port Harcourt Tourist Beach, which he inspected on October 29, 2024, to evaluate progress.

To attract both local and foreign investors, the Rivers State Investment Promotion Agency (RSIPA), led by Dr. Chamberlain Peterside, held a stakeholder engagement forum to establish a one-stop center for investors. This effort has begun yielding results, with private sector investments in agriculture, tourism, culture, and the arts. Notable examples include the Songhai Integrated Farms and the revival of Rex Lawson Cultural Centre.

Governor Fubara has also made significant strides in healthcare by awarding contracts for the construction of Bori and Omoku Zonal Hospitals. He emphasized that, despite political opposition, his administration remains focused on providing affordable healthcare, quality education, and boosting agriculture, alongside standard infrastructure.

The Governor has delivered residential quarters to officers of the Nigerian Air Force, while the State House of Assembly construction continues.

Politically, Governor Fubara is described as people-oriented, God-fearing, and committed to development. His administration is dedicated to the accelerated transformation of Rivers State.

Before Governor Fubara took office, Rivers State faced numerous challenges, including salary delays for teachers, neglected pensions, halted promotions, and a deteriorated state secretariat. Under his leadership, the backlog of promotions and pensions has been cleared, the state secretariat refurbished, and preparations made to employ fresh workers.
