Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, has announced that he will officially flag off his campaign for the 2027 governorship election next Sunday at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
Governor Otti made the announcement while addressing a delegation of his kinsmen from Nvosi, Isialangwa South Local Government Area, who visited him to commend his administration’s achievements and express support for his second-term bid.
The Governor thanked the delegation for endorsing his stewardship and re-election ambition, declaring that he was confident about the future because, according to him, it was already ordained by God.
He said the achievements recorded in his first three years in office were only the beginning of greater things to come, adding that his administration was paying particular attention to Aba and Umuahia because of their capacity to generate revenue for development across the state.
Governor Otti assured the people of Nvosi that they would benefit from more democratic dividends, particularly in road infrastructure and industrial development.
He also expressed confidence that the Abia Airport project would be completed by 2028.
Earlier, the Labour Party senatorial candidate for Abia Central, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, said the gathering provided an opportunity for the people of Nvosi to appreciate the governor’s achievements and demonstrate their solidarity with his re-election bid in 2027.
Sen. Nwokocha said the people were proud of Governor Otti’s accomplishments, noting that the governor has placed Nvosi and Abia State on the global map through his performance in office.
He assured Governor Otti of the community’s support, describing his second-term bid as a “done deal”.
Other stakeholders, including Dr Gashen Amuta, Elder Ishmael Onuoha and Elder Israel Nwogwugwu, praised the governor for what they described as his outstanding achievements in academia, governance and other fields of endeavour.
They urged the governor to remain focused on his administration’s development agenda and not be distracted by the antics of opposition.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Mr Ikechukwu Monday, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport, Dr Obioma Nwogbe; and the Deputy General Manager, Elder Okezie Ezengwa, described the gathering as a meeting of Nvosi indigenes drawn from different political parties.
They said their common objective was to mobilise support for Governor Otti’s re-election to enable him to continue his administration’s development programmes.
The Isialangwa South Local Government Area Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Mrs Evelyn Amaike, commended the governor for giving women in Nvosi a greater sense of belonging.
She also praised the administration for prioritizing teachers’ welfare, saying their working conditions had improved significantly under Otti led administration.
