An Igbere community leader, Chief Okorie Ukonu, has appealed to voters across Bende Federal Constituency to support Labour Party candidate Dr. Chima Anyaso in the January 16, 2027 National Assembly election, expressing confidence that the aspirant would make the community proud if elected.
Ukonu made the appeal on Saturday during a voter engagement organised by Anyaso, which brought together representatives from the 214 polling units across the 13 wards of Bende Local Government Area.
In an emotional address, the community leader urged voters from Alayi, Item, Ugwueke/Ezeukwu, Uzuakoli, Bende, Itumbauzor, Umuhu/Ezechi, Ozuitem and Umuimenyi/Nkpa to unite behind the Igbere-born politician, irrespective of their communities.
“We are appealing to all of you, support this our son, he will make us proud,” Ukonu said, as he called for broad-based support for Anyaso’s ambition to represent the constituency in the House of Representatives.
The appeal drew an immediate response from Anyaso, who approached the visibly emotional community leader and encouraged him to stand, while expressing optimism about his electoral chances.
The encounter added an emotional dimension to the gathering, which provided an opportunity for engagement with voters across Bende’s polling units as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Anyaso’s consultation with grassroots representatives forms part of his efforts to build support across the constituency, with the January 16, 2027 poll expected to determine who represents Bende Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
