Gov. Otti commissions school building, reaffirm stand on giving education a facelift in Abia.

Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti has commissioned a two-block classroom built by Ubakala Secondary School Old Students Association with an assurance of according priority attention to the education sector for excellent and quality delivery.

Dr Otti who stated this during the commissioning of two blocks of classroom and reunion ceremony of Ubakala Secondary School Old Students Association, held at the School premises, Nsukwe, Ubakala in Umuahia South LGA reiterated that because of the importance Government attaches to education it allocated about 30 percentage of this year’s budget to the education sector.

The Governor represented by his Deputy, Engr Ikechukwu Emetu commended the Old Students of Ubakala Secondary School for their thoughtfulness and patriotic zeal to give back to the school that nurtured them by embarking on renovation of dilapidated structures, which in extension is complimenting Goverment’s efforts at uplifting the standards of education across the State.

He reassured the Old Students and management of the School of Govermeñt’s commitment to do more in keeping to all the promises made to them as it will leave lasting legacies and footprints in the school and urged other Old Students Association to do more and impact on their Alma Mater.

In her remarks, the Commissioner for Education, Prof Uche Eme Uche noted that despite inheriting huge problems in the school education system across the State, Goverment will not renage in it’s responsibilities of giving adequate attention to the education sector and commended the Old Students Association for not forgetting to give back to their School.

Also speaking, an Old Student and Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Sir Kingsley Anosike pointed out that the sad trajectory of rots in the sector will be addressed as the about 30 percentage of budget allotted to education will soon impact on them and appreciated members of the Old Students Association for coming out strong in effecting positive change in their school.

In his address, the President General, Ubakala Secondary School Old Students Association, Chief Sam Uba said the good foundation provided them at their formative levels in the school have gingered them to support their Alma Mater both in projects, provision of academic materials, moral support and listed their challenges to include, modern laboratories, restrooms, Corper’s lodge, furniture for teachers and students, security among others.

The event featured goodwill messages from the President General of Ubakala Improvement Union Federated, Chief Friday Ogbuehi, represented by Chaplain Charles Mbakwe and Chairman, Chief Executive SLOT, Chief Nnamdi Ezeigbo, while the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Commander Mark Uba Rtd was decorated with an Honorary member of Ubakala Secondary School Old Students Association for his outstanding contribution to the development of the school.
