An Abia-born technocrat, Mr. Eni Uche, has said that the outcome of the 2027 general elections in Abia State will be determined by the performance of political office holders rather than the political parties they represent.
Uche stated this in Abuja shortly after returning from an assessment tour of Abia State, where he inspected ongoing developmental projects across the state.
The technocrat, who is the son of the late Justice A. K. Uche, a former First Republic legislator who represented the Ohafia–Bende Constituency in the then Eastern Nigeria House of Assembly, described the transformation under the administration of Governor Alex Chioma Otti as remarkable.
According to him, the rehabilitation and construction of roads, modernization of transport terminals, urban renewal initiatives, improvements in healthcare facilities, investments in public education, and other infrastructure projects have significantly transformed many parts of the state and strengthened public confidence in the present administration.
Uche recalled that he supported Governor Otti throughout his electioneering campaigns until his eventual victory at the polls. He also disclosed that, before the current administration assumed office, he instituted a legal action aimed at preventing the immediate past government from accessing funds he believed could have been mismanaged before the transition.
He said his recent assessment of projects across the state convinced him that the Otti administration has set a new benchmark for governance, stressing that future elections should be judged on tangible achievements rather than party affiliation.
The Abia-born technocrat also commended the Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, for executing constituency projects, including road construction, classroom blocks, and the installation of solar-powered streetlights across the district.
He equally praised the member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa, for what he described as impactful interventions in education, healthcare, youth empowerment, and other constituency development programmes.
Uche urged senators, members of the House of Representatives, and other elected public office holders to embrace a performance-driven approach to governance, noting that the electorate is becoming increasingly interested in visible development and quality service delivery.
“The era when political parties alone determined electoral victory is gradually giving way to one where performance speaks louder. Leaders who deliver meaningful development will continue to earn the confidence and support of the people,” he said.
