We’re setting a new template for governance in Abia, partner with us, Gov. Otti tasks NYSC corps members.
NYSC corps members have been enjoined to partner the state government in its continuous efforts at setting a new template for governance in Abia.
In his speech at the closing Ceremony/Terminal Parade of the 2024 Batch “B” Corps Members held at the State NYSC Orientation Camp in Umunneato, Bende L.G.A, Governor Alex Otti tasked them to strive to add value wherever they are posted.
He pointed out that he is the Abia State Governor today, because young people like them believed that their future will be more secured with him at the driving seat.
“As corps members, you are now part of the youth population in Abia. We shall treat you with the same genuine affection that won us the admiration of your new friends in the State. In the New Abia, a sense of responsibility takes prominence over an entitlement mentality. You have been posted to the State to serve in various establishments: schools, hospitals, legal institutions, private businesses and wherever your services would add value to the development of our country Nigeria.
“You are thereby encouraged to make a difference wherever you go. In schools, be a role model to the students, refuse to exploit or lead them astray for that would be a grave sin against God and man. In the hospitals and health facilities, be compassionate and attentive to the needs of the sick; be the one that offers hope and reassurance in very difficult moments. If posted to a government or private establishment, be honest in your undertakings, do your best at all times and be conscious of one thing: someone will always be watching”.
The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, informed the corps members that the state is probusiness and will always encourage young entrepreneurs to excel in their various endeavours.
His words, “Just last week, we disbursed N1 billion to 10, 000 Abians through the State’s Cooperatives Support Scheme. The beneficiaries are nano and micro entrepreneurs who are expected to invest the funds they had received to the growth of their businesses. If you find yourself in any community, please do yourself a world of good by identifying the relevant business cooperatives you can register with. You may become one of the beneficiaries at the next batch because in Abia, we do not discriminate on the basis of where you come from”.
In her Address, The NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Adama Gladys said that the corps members have proved themselves to be good ambassadors of the scheme as well as accepted all the instructions given to them by the Officials
She charged the Corps members to embark on viable community development service project that must be relevant and useful to their host communities.
” I urged all of you to take your post – camp Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development(SAED) training very seriously as this will enable you perfect what you started during your camp training”.
Mrs Adama appreciated Governor Alex Otti for his support and ordering of the construction and rehabilitation of facilities in the camp and also at the NYSC State Secretariat as well as assuring the security of the corps members posted to the State.
