The First Lady of Nigeria, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, demonstrated strong leadership and commitment to advancing gender equality yesterday by leading the historic signing of a compact with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) during the UNFPA Gender-Based Violence and Harmful Social Norms Summit.
The significant event took place at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja, where First Ladies from across the nation gathered.
Each First Lady, along with Senator Tinubu, signed the agreement to dismantle harmful social norms and address the widespread issue of gender-based violence.
Senator Tinubu’s pivotal role in this initiative reflects her profound dedication to fostering a safer and more equitable society for women and girls throughout Nigeria.
Among the distinguished guests was the First Lady of Abia State, Her Excellency Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, who, along with other First Ladies, signed the transformative agreement.

She also emphasized that with this partnership, we are empowered to speak out, address harmful practices, and make lasting improvements for women and girls throughout Nigeria.
Mrs. Otti expressed her gratitude to the First Lady of Nigeria for consistently championing the rights and welfare of women across the nation, adding that her leadership role in the ongoing efforts to uplift women in Nigeria cannot be overlooked.
According to Mrs. Otti, “Her remarks underscored the significance of this unified action, emphasizing the reinvigorated and collective effort, supported by the UNFPA, to combat gender-based violence across Nigeria,” she said.
