NYG 2024: Abia Director of Sports Hails Athletes Performance

The Director of Sports Abia State Sports Council, Comrade Obioma George has expressed happiness over the performance of the athletes in the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State tagged Asaba 2024.

Comrade George in an interview with journalists in Asaba, said the National Youth Games have witnessed tremendous improvements from Abia State, saying that the state has bettered it’s performance from the last edition.

He however frowned at the screening processes at the games , stating that there was need to have an improved screening exercise during the games describing the situation as worrisome.

Comrade George explained that a large percent of the athletes who are in Asaba for the competition are products of the maiden secondary school games in Abia, maintaining that the second edition of the school games would come up next year.

He explained that Abia has amassed a total of twenty six medal, six gold, silver eleven and nine bronze medal four above the number of medals of won last year in the fiesta.

He also pointed out that preparations for the National Sports Festival in Ogun State has already commenced.

The Director attributed the successes recorded in the sports sector in Abia to the foresight of the governor Dr. Alex Otti for giving priority to the development of sports, noting that Abians has never had it so good.
