Nigeria’s Ambassador-Designate to the Republic of Portugal, Her Excellency Erelu Angela Adebayo, has taken a significant step towards the commencement of her diplomatic assignment by formally presenting copies of her Letters of Credence (copies d’usage) to Ambassador Francisco Ribeiro Telles, Secretary-General of Portugal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa.
The diplomatic ceremony marks a key milestone in the accreditation process and precedes the formal presentation of her Letters of Credence to His Excellency António José Seguro, President of the Portuguese Republic.
The presentation of the copies of the Letters of Credence is a standard diplomatic procedure that officially notifies the host country’s foreign ministry of the ambassador-designate’s appointment and paves the way for the formal assumption of diplomatic duties following accreditation by the Head of State.
Ambassador Adebayo’s posting is expected to further strengthen the longstanding diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Portugal while promoting greater cooperation in trade, investment, education, culture, and other areas of mutual interest.
