Labour Party (LP) has commenced the upload of its governorship and House of Assembly candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal after receiving the access code required for the exercise, marking another key milestone in preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The party disclosed that the upload process began shortly after INEC released the access credentials to its national leadership, assuring members and supporters that the exercise has been progressing smoothly.
National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Ken Asogwa, confirmed the development in a statement, saying the party had officially received the access code from the electoral commission.
“The Labour Party can confirm that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has provided the Party with the access code required to upload its Governorship and House of Assembly candidates to the INEC nomination portal. The upload exercise commenced yesterday and has been progressing seamlessly,” Asogwa stated.
The development follows weeks of anticipation among political parties over the release of access codes, which are mandatory for the electronic submission of candidates’ particulars ahead of the 2027 elections.
INEC had earlier explained that the release of the credentials would be carried out in accordance with the Electoral Act, its published timetable, and relevant legal requirements to ensure transparency and compliance throughout the nomination process.
The commencement of the upload exercise signals the Labour Party’s readiness to meet the commission’s deadlines as political parties intensify preparations for the forthcoming governorship and state legislative elections.
Political analysts say the successful upload of candidates’ details is a critical stage in the electoral process, as it enables INEC to verify nominations and publish the personal particulars of candidates in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
