The Abia State Government has inaugurated committees to oversee the Confirmation, Promotion and Advancement COMPRAD) Examination and the Proficiency School programme for civil servants
The initiative is part of the state government’s efforts to improve professionalism, restore public confidence in the Civil Service and improve the quality of service delivery.
The Head of Service, Benson Ojeikere, who inaugurated the committees, said the move was aimed at ensuring fairness, transparency and accountability in the examination process. He added that it would also help improve the knowledge and skills of civil servants.
Ojeikere explained that the committees would be chaired by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology, Mrs. Justina Eboh. They will work with the Bureau of Training to plan, manage and implement the Proficiency School programme. They will also coordinate and supervise the COMPRAD Examination in line with existing rules and regulations.
He said the committees would be responsible for ensuring that examinations are conducted fairly and credibly, preventing examination malpractice and engaging qualified instructors to train civil servants.
The committees are also expected to review and improve the Proficiency School programme to meet current professional standards and the changing needs of the Civil Service.
The Head of Service said the committees must also work towards improving the skills, productivity and overall performance of workers across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
He urged members to carry out their duties with honesty, dedication and professionalism. He stressed that the success of the reforms would be measured by improvements in the efficiency and performance of the state Civil Service.
In her response, the committee chairperson, Mrs. Justina Eboh, thanked the state government for the confidence placed in the members and the opportunity to contribute to the development of the Civil Service.
Eboh acknowledged that the assignment would require serious commitment. She said achieving the desired results would depend on new ideas, teamwork, honest assessment of the existing system and the engagement of qualified instructors.
She expressed confidence that the committees’ collective efforts would help establish a more credible examination system and a Proficiency School programme that meets the changing needs of the Civil Service.
Other members of the committees include the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Mrs. Blossom Uma-Kalu, and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Mrs. Ijeoma Aguwa, among others.
