The Abia State Government has set up a Management Board to oversee the implementation of its healthcare and welfare policies for civil servants and provide support for the families of officers who die while in active service.
The Head of Service, Benson Ojeikere, said the initiative was part of the state government’s efforts to improve workers’ welfare, boost their morale and ensure that civil servants receive the necessary support when they face health challenges.
Ojeikere explained that the policy would provide financial assistance to civil servants with medical needs, promote preventive healthcare and ensure that the families of officers who die in active service receive timely support.
He added that the support for bereaved families would include assistance with burial expenses and the prompt payment of all outstanding entitlements due to deceased officers.
According to him, the Management Board would review and verify medical and bereavement claims, monitor the implementation of the policies and ensure transparency and accountability in the process.
The Head of Service expressed confidence that the initiative would improve workers’ welfare, strengthen their trust in the government’s welfare programmes and increase productivity across the state public service.
Ojeikere disclosed that he would serve as Chairman of the Board. The Commissioners for Health and Finance and a representative of Organised Labour would serve as members, while the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishments and Pensions, would be the Secretary.
The initiative is part of the Abia State Government’s efforts to strengthen its welfare programmes by providing healthcare support for serving civil servants and ensuring that the families of officers who die in active service receive the necessary assistance and benefits.
