Gov. Otti Set To Flag Off Reconstruction Of Omenuko Bridge, Pledges More Road Projects, Security

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has announced that the long-awaited reconstruction of the Omenuko Bridge in Arochukwu LGA will be officially flagged off next Tuesday.

Governor Otti made this known, on Friday, during the January 2025 edition of the Monthly Media Parley tagged, “Governor Otti Speaks to Abians”.

The Governor noted that the Omenuko Bridge has long been a death trap for decades with multiple lives lost due to its deteriorated state, and revealed that his administration has already commenced work on the bridge.

He underscored the importance of the bridge in enhancing mobility and economic activities in the area pointing out that his Government is determination to provide safe and accessible infrastructure for the people.

In terms of Road Infrastructure, Governor Otti vowed that the State Government would continue to be focused in it’s determination to create access roads across the State’s 17 Local Government Areas.

There are no amount of roads that we will build that would be enough. We are talking them (road construction) one step at a time knowing that Rome was not built in a day.

A lot of the roads we flagged off have been completed. Alot of them have been commissioned while others are waiting to be commissioned.

But as that is going on, we will continue to flag off road projects“, Gov Otti assured.

On the issue of Security, Governor Otti reassured Abians that his administration remains committed to ensuring their safety and emphasized that the State Government would “continue to do whatever is necessary to guarantee that Abia residents sleep with their eyes closed”.

The Governor urged citizens to be vigilant, report suspicious movements, and actively participate in securing their communities.

He said although the State is relatively peaceful compared to other States, his Government has zero tolerance for crime and is working strategically to combat insecurity across the state.

Governor Otti also highlighted the importance of job creation in crime prevention, stating that when people are gainfully employed, they are less likely to engage in criminal activities.

“I have always said that when you gainfully engage people they will be unavailable for crime and criminality.

We continue to work to ensure that people are gainfully engaged”, Gov Otti assured.

On the issue of Waste Management, Governor Otti revealed that his Government is taking proactive steps to convert waste into wealth and disclosed ongoing partnerships with private individuals and organizations to transform waste into useful resources, including Electricity generation.

“In the area of Waste Management, we have continued to work to keep our state clean.

“I think in the last 20 months, we have gotten to the point of getting into proper Waste Management and conversion of waste to wealth.

We are at the point where we are taking proposals and we are going through them to determine who we will partner with so that all the rubbish we are carting away can be converted into useful outcomes like generation of power and things of that nature.

Suffice it to say that Abia State Environmental Protection Agency has done very well because we are no longer described as the dirtiest state and I urge the Agency to do more“, he said.

Governor Otti expressed gratitude to the people of the State for their unwavering support for his administration and reassured them that his Government is dedicated to serving their interests and improving their quality of life.

As a government, we are here to work for the people, and we will continue to prioritize policies and projects that enhance their well-being”, he stated.
