Graham Potter’s first match as West Ham manager ended in a defeat as Aston Villa came from behind to defeat the Hammers 2-1 to qualify for the FA Cup fourth round.
Lucas Paqueta scored in the ninth minute for the visitors, but the crumbled in the second half conceding two goals in five minutes.
Amadou Onana restored parity in the 71st minute, though referee Tim Robinson incorrectly awarded a corner kick to Villa in the build-up to the goal.
Five minutes later, Morgan Rogers scored the winner.
Potter, who had only one training session with his team before the match had hoped for a better outcome. Unfortunately he lost the game and lost Niclas Fullkrug as well to apparently, a hamstring injury.
In the other match, League One side, Wycombe Wanderers upset Championship side Portsmouth.
Two first half goals by Brandon Hanlan and Sonny Bradley were enough to secure a round four ticket for the home side.
