Jubilation As Ukwa-East Council Boss, Akara Grades Ohuru-Obohia Road After 24 Years

The Chairman, Ukwa-East Local Government Area (LGA), Abia State, Hon. Chibunna Akara has started the grading of Ohuru-Obohia ring roads.

The Council boss who disclosed that his administration with the support of Gov Alex Otti is committed to rapid infrastructural development in the area.

In a Press Release by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Chairman, Comrade Justice Enyinnaya Nwaubani, the Chairman noted that the Ohuru-Obohia Road had been abandoned for over 24 years by previous administrations, hence, the need to salvage the deplorable road.

The Chairman also revealed that a directive has been issued to the Department of Works to use laterite on the road to make it accessible and durable.

Speaking at the flag-off, Hon. Akara said his administration has declare a state of emergency on bad roads in our LGA, assuring the people of the area of the readiness of his administration to address the age-long deplorable road Infrastructure of the area.

According to him: “We have declare State of emergency against abandoned road projects in Ukwa-East LGA. We will deploy everything at our disposal to make roads in Ukwa-East accessible to enhance socio-economic development of our communities.”

The era of wasted agricultural produce, he said is over, promising that all rural roads in the area would be graded to enhance access.

The Chairman, further directed the Department of Works of the Local Government Council to commence work, insisting that the council would use direct-labour approach.

Meanwhile, a farmer in the area, Mr. Chima Nwankwo has expressed satisfaction over the road project, adding that it would enable farmers to take their farm produce to where it can command good market values.
