Absu Dismisses Some Lecturers

The Governing council of Abia State University has approved the dismissal of some Lecturers of the University for various offences.

This followed the consideration of the reports and recommendations of the University’s Staff Disciplinary Committee which found them guilty of the offences preferred against them.

Naija Daily News report that, Senate of the University at its 334th regular meeting approved a policy on Anti-Sexual harasment and related unwholesome academic misconduct for staff and students of the University.

Some of the lecturers have however debunked the allegations preferred against them.

Similarly, 34 Students of the University who were found guilty of breaching their Matriculation Oath have been disciplined by the University with the following sanctions:Expulsion – 16 Suspension for 1 year, 6- Indefinite Suspension – 12

The Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor E. Uche Ikonne has therefore reassured staff and students of the University of the determination of Management and Senate to ensure conducive environment for teaching and research, while urging them to be guided by approved University Regulations.

Our sources however, revealed that the affected lecturers have apealed to the University’s Council to review the recommendations of Staff Disciplinary Committee.

The source also said that the Council may sit anytime in March to review the recommendations of the Committee.
