The Deputy Mayor of Ugwunagbo Local Government Area, Mr. Nnamdi Kelvin Chijioke, has lauded Governor Alex Otti for his commitment to improving education in Abia State, describing the Governor’s actions as exemplary and worthy of emulation.
The commendation follows the recent awarding of scholarships to 46 indigent students across various tertiary institutions in Nigeria under the Alex Otti Foundation.
The Deputy Mayor in an interview with National Ambassador commended Governor Otti’s dedication to uplifting the less privileged through education and expressed confidence that the Governor’s educational policies would continue to uplift youths of the state.
He noted that Governor Otti’s initiative underscores his administration’s vision of establishing functional educational system across Abia State.
Hon Chijioke emphasized that the Governor’s initiative in the education sector would not only ensure that children are adequately equipped to compete globally with their peers, but further enhance Abia state’s reputation among the comity of states.
“The priority that Governor Otti places on education is not only commendable but also worthy of emulation.
“His actions have rekindled hope among indigent children and their families, showing them that access to quality education is possible, regardless of their financial background.
“By offering these scholarships, the governor has not only added value to Abia State but has also contributed to the broader society, as the benefits of education extend far beyond the individual recipients”, Chijioke stated
While highlighting that Governor Otti’s scholarship initiative is notable for its merit-based selection process, the Deputy Mayor noted that the scholarship scheme which has seen hundreds of students benefit in recent years, is awarded solely on the basis of academic qualification, without regard for personal connections.
The Deputy Mayor who reiterated his commitment to replicating Governor Otti’s strategies in Ugwunagbo LGA, disclosed that he personally organized educational seminars and prize-winning quizzes aimed at boosting academic performance among students with limited access to formal education.
He cited his involvement in initiatives like the Ugwunagbo LGA Unity Cup, which he sponsored last December.adding that there is no greater form of youth empowerment than providing access to education.
Hon Chijioke therefore tasked other local government leaders to adopt Governor Otti’s vision for a better State, where education is prioritized as a tool for development.
“Education is the foundation of a prosperous future. To sustain the progress we are making in Abia, we must all commit to advancing education.
“I am committed to transforming the educational landscape of Ugwunagbo, and I encourage my colleagues to do the same in their respective areas“, he said.
He urged the scholarship recipients to take their studies seriously, and stressed the need for them to maintain a high Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) to continue enjoying the benefits of the scholarship program.
