The Inyom Ugwueke National Women Association, from Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, has pledged to mobilize support for the re-election of Governor Alex Otti, citing his administration’s impact on women’s empowerment and good governance in the state.
The association made the pledge on Tuesday during a solidarity visit to the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, at the Government House, Umuahia.
Led by its President-General, Inyom Comfort Sunday, the group said it came to express appreciation to the Governor and his wife for what it described as a positive transformation in Abia’s development trajectory.
The women commended Mrs. Otti for her advocacy for women and girl-child empowerment, as well as her efforts to combat all forms of gender-based violence.
They further stated that they had resolved to work diligently for the Governor’s re-election to ensure the continuity of ongoing projects and reforms across the state.
The association also extended an invitation to the Governor’s wife to attend its forthcoming August conference, which will focus on issues affecting women and community development.
Responding on behalf of Mrs. Otti, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Women Affairs, Mrs. Chinenye Nwaka, thanked the group for its support and urged members to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise.
“There is no better way to support the Governor than by ensuring you are registered to vote. We cannot go back to Egypt,” she said.
She noted that improved governance under the current administration had restored public confidence, adding that “people are now proud to identify themselves as Abians.”.
