The Chairman, House Committee on Public Service, Abia State House of Assembly (ABHA), Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr has urged stakeholders in Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West to remain steadfast and united in People’s Democratic Party (PDP), insisting that the party would regain power in Abia come 2027.
The lawmaker representing Obingwa-West State constituency, in Abia Assembly who disclosed this yesterday during his visits to Akwete-Ndoki and Ogwe in Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West respectively, maintained that PDP is the only party with the interest and welfare of the people at heart.
The former Chairman, Obingwa LGA, also commended PDP in Ukwa-East/Ukwa-West for winning elections in the area since 1999 till date, enjoining them to remain more resilient in PDP amidst the challenges facing the party.
The former Director, Enyimba FC appealed to stakeholders and aggrieved party members who were not favoured in the recently held party congress to sheath their swords and support the party, maintaining that PDP would always prioritize the interest of everyone.
The Uhie-born legislator further noted that the goal of returning to power in 2027, would require sacrifice from stakeholders and members of their party, urging them to step up their games and woo more people into the party.
Erondu Jnr also revealed that PDP had lost power in the state previously, and regained it, expressing hope that the party would regain power in the state come 2027.
In his speech, the PDP Chairman, Abia State, Elder Abraham Amah, thanked Ukwa people for winning elections in their LGAs in the 2023 general polls, charging them to repeat the feat come 2027.
The PDP state party Chairman, regretted that the member representing Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West at the Federal House of Representatives, Abuja, Hon. Chris Nkwonta, who was elected under the platform of their party, PDP, suddenly defected to All Progressive Congress (APC), abandoning the party that helped him.
He described Rep. Nkwonta as a very wealthy man who had serially failed elections since 1992 to 2019 but was helped by PDP to win Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal Constituency seat in National Assembly Abuja in 2023.
Amah said that the Federal Lawmaker’s lack of contentment contributed to his defection to APC after suffering serial defeats over the years, urging members step up their games and recover their seat through the ballots come 2027 general polls.
Amah also welcomed over 250 defectors from APC, LP and APGA into the party in Ogwe, Ukwa-West Abia State, promising that their interest would be protected.
Meanwhile, the immediate past Abia state PDP chairman, Rt. Hon. Alwell Asiforo Okere, has commended Abia Lawmaker, Erondu Jnr for prioritizing the welfare of his constituents, thus; making the party proud.
The former Deputy Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly, who also said that he has commissioned several houses built and donated by the Lawmaker, Erondu Jnr to indigent Abians across the state, urged leaders at all levels to emulate him.
Rt. Hon. Okere further assured the party’s leadership that Ukwa-East would continue to remain in PDP, restating his commitment towards the rebuilding of the party in Ukwa-East and Abia State at large.
Contributing, the PDP Chairmen in Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West, Hon. Israel Bebe and Hon. Ben Nwachi respectively, thanked Erondu Jnr and the state party chairman for the visit and support to the party, insisting that those who left their party has no electoral value and of questionable characters.
They promised to live up to their billings and reclaim their mandates come 2027 polls.
In their separate remarks, the members representing Ukwa-East State constituency in Abia Assembly, Hon. Lewis Obianyi and his Ukwa-West counterpart, Hon. Goddy Adiele, described Erondu Jnr as a passionate leader, thanking him for his immense support to his constituents and the party.
They disclosed that Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West have over the years remain PDP strongholds with good winning records and promised that they would replicate the feats in 2027 general elections.
Elder statesman, Chief Isaac Ogbonna, Elder Reginald Ezenta, former Deputy Speaker, ABHA, Rt. Hon. Ngozi Ulunwa, Director-General Igodo Igwe campaign council, Hon. Chidiebere Ihenyirimadu, former chairman, Abia State Oil Producing Areas Commission (ASOPADEC), Barr. Henry Chilaka, PDP Chairman, Obingwa LGA, Ahamefula Egbulefu, Chief S.P. Ogbonna, among others dignitaries were present at the events.
