Costa Rica shrug off their heavy defeat to Spain to defeat Japan by a lone goal in their second group match.
Japan were expected to do better after they came from a goal down to defeat Germany. But, Costa Rica had failed to cause Japan any serious trouble before Fuller’s deflected shot from the edge of the box escaped goalkeeper Shuichi Gonda’s grasp nine minutes from time.
Germany will appreciate this outcome as they take on Spain tonight.
