Prosecution’s Absence Delays Umuahia Court Case

A criminal case before the Abia State High Court in Umuahia has suffered delays following the repeated absence of the prosecution and its witnesses.

The matter, with Charge No. HU/13C/2025, came up for definite hearing on July 8, 2026, before Justice U.P. Enwereji, with the defendants produced in court and C.I. Ezindu appearing for the defence. However, no counsel appeared for the State.

During the proceedings, defence counsel told the court that the prosecution had repeatedly failed to attend hearings and produce its witnesses.

He cited previous hearing dates, including October 29 and November 25, 2025, and July 2, 2026. The court confirmed that the matter had been listed for definite hearing on those dates but that the prosecution and its witnesses were absent.

Defence counsel subsequently sought an adjournment to enable him to file a bail application on behalf of the defendants.

The case came up again on October 6, 2026, before Justice Enwereji, with the defendant produced in court. However, the available report ends before giving details of the appearances and outcome of that sitting.

Further details of the October 6 proceedings were not provided.
