Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti has approved the appointment of a new leadership team for the Ariaria International Market in Aba as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen market administration and improve operational efficiency within the state’s commercial ecosystem.
The appointments, according to the Abia State Government, are intended to reposition the market for greater productivity, improved security, better sanitation and enhanced engagement among traders and other stakeholders.
This was contained in a press statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Emmanuel C. Meribole, who stated that the appointments received the approval of Governor Otti and take immediate effect.
The government explained that the move forms part of ongoing reforms aimed at restoring the market’s status as a leading commercial destination in Nigeria and beyond.
The newly constituted leadership will be headed by Chief Polycarp Muojiuba as Chairman, while Mazi Ufere Iyama will serve as Vice Chairman.
Other members of the leadership team include Christian Nwachukwu who is to serve as Secretary, Okechukwu Godswill, Assistant Secretary, Ikechukwu Alex Uzukwe, Treasurer, Chizoba Onyeukwu as Chief Security Officer and Christian Chukwuma as Provost.
Also appointed are Francis Madubuike, Chief Task Officer, Chief Ugochukwu Nwaeze, Financial Secretary, Mrs Chinwe Onwura, Woman Leader, Mrs Chibuzo Umeonyimba, Assistant Woman Leader and Kingsley Egbeogu as Public Relations Officer.
Other members include Chief Chinedu Udechukwu, Uzoma Nwakpa, Mrs Chidinma Obia, Etelbarth Ugha and Chief Chukwuemeka Mgbajiaka.
The statement further called on traders and all interest groups within the market community to support the new management team in order to ensure smooth administration and sustained commercial activities.
“The State Government urges all traders, unions, stakeholders and members of the market community to cooperate fully with the new leadership in the collective interest of maintaining peace, order and commercial excellence within the market,” the statement added.
The statement also reaffirmed the state government’s determination to transform Ariaria International Market into a more vibrant economic hub.
“Government further reiterates its commitment to restoring the glory of Ariaria International Market as a leading commercial hub in Nigeria and beyond,” the statement said.
