Onuigbo Lauds Okonjo-Iweala’s Reappointment

The Former Member of the House of Representatives for Ikwuano/Umuahia North and Umuahia South Federal Constituency, Rep. Sir Sam Onuigbo, has described the re-appointment of Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala GCON, as the Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), as proof that Nigerians exhibit remarkable excellence-in-service whenever they are called upon to serve.

Onuigbo, who currently represents the South East on the Governing Board of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) stated this in a congratulatory message released in Abuja on Friday, 29 November, 2024.

Recalling that Dr Okonjo-Iweala was his constituent during his time at the National Assembly, Rep Onuigbo stated that in every position which she has occupied, Dr Okonjo-Iweala has shone bright, reflecting what is best and noble about the Nigerian people.

He expressed his confidence that she will continue on her present trajectory to bring reforms to the global trade architecture including the current effort at enshrining sustainable trade practices that reflect the need to decabornise international trade.

On 29 November, the 166 members of the WTO achieved a consensus in re-appointing Dr Okonjo-Iweala for a second term. In her acceptance, she said:”This is an enormous responsibility and I will redouble my efforts to work with each and every member to try and deliver the results this organization needs, including the necessary reforms to make it fit for 21st century challenges.”
