The wife of the Governor of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Otti has commended the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu for partnering with her through her pet project, the Renewed Hope Initiative(RHI) to distribute free exercise books to pupils and students in Abia State.
Mrs. Otti also announced that over 110,000 RHI free exercise books have been made available to pupils and students in partnership with her office, the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) and the Abia State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
The Governor’s wife said that as one of the interventions of Senator Oluremi Tinubu in the education sector, the aid will go along way in Abia children’s academics pursuits at the Basic school level.
According to her, “as the mother of our dear nation, she is passionate about the empowerment of women, girls, and children, including pupils and students of our institutions of learning,” she said.
She noted that the distribution of the free exercise books was in recognition of the critical role education plays in human capital development.
“Education is crucial and remains the backbone of a nation’s development, prosperity, and growth.
“Investing in education is essential for building a prosperous, equitable, and harmonious society. It fosters innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship, driving economic progress,” Mrs Otti said.
The Abia First Lady maintained that the administration of Governor Otti will keep championing strategic initiatives that enhances the development of Abia children.
She added that the book distribution underscores Governor Otti’s commitment to providing quality basic education to all children in Abia State.
According to her, every pupil would get at least six exercise books that would play a vital role in their academic journey by providing spaces for the pupils to take notes, record assignments, and track progress.
However, Mrs. Otti, pointed out that the provision serves as a palliative support, and does not replace the responsibility of parents and guardians to provide learning materials for their wards.

Earlier, the Chairperson of Abia State Universal Basic Education Board, Lady Lydia Onuoha expressed that Abia State education sector is going through a transformative period.
She emphasized that Governor Otti is investing in the future of Abia children by re-energizing stakeholders engagement to creating more inclusive space for greater and conducive learning environment for Abia children.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Elder Goodluck Ubochi stated that Governor Otti is scaling up the education sector in Abia State.
“At least, basic and junior secondary school is now free in Abia with their teachers being trained and more than 221 schools currently going through renovations.
“With these inputs, the standard of education in the state will greatly improved,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Education, Mr. Kenechukwu Nwosu said that it is a pleasant time for education in Abia State.
