Igbere Clergy Forum Backs Anyaso for Bende Reps Seat

The Igbere Clergy Forum (IGBF) has endorsed the Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, pledging prayers and support for his election to the House of Representatives in 2027.

The endorsement was announced during an interdenominational prayer service held on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at All Saints Presbyterian Church, Onu-Ibina, Igbere, in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.

The event attracted clergymen, traditional rulers, community leaders, women and youth representatives from the 13 communities that make up Igbere.

The service, themed “The Miraculous God,” with its scriptural reference from Psalm 77:14, brought together members of the forum, which comprises about 76 churches across Igbere.

Preaching on the topic, “Start Among Stars,” from Genesis 37:9–11, Rev. Oke of the CPM described Anyaso as a star whose emergence, according to him, reflected God’s purpose. He urged the congregation to recognise God’s work in the candidate’s life and commit his political ambition to divine guidance.

At the end of the service, the participating churches declared their support for Anyaso and pledged to continue praying for his success in the forthcoming election.

Representatives of the 13 communities offered special prayers for the candidate, while the 13 Ezeogos joined the clergy in seeking God’s guidance, protection and favour for him.

The forum also presented a Bible to Anyaso as a symbol of spiritual encouragement, urging him to remain committed to his faith and trust in God throughout his political journey.

Among the prominent religious leaders at the gathering were the Chairman of the Igbere Clergy Forum, Rev. Abraham Agu; Bishop Egeonu Chima; and the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Igbere, Rt. Rev. Nwaonu Anyasi, alongside other ministers.

The forum had, in its invitation to the service, described the period as a critical moment in the political history of Ndi Bende and Umuinna, stressing that the Church had a responsibility to provide moral direction and speak with one voice on issues affecting the future of the people.
