Keyamo Commends Eno on Victor Attah Airport Milestone

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), has commended the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, for his commitment to completing the Victor Attah International Airport and achieving its international status.

The airport on Saturday commenced international operations, airlifting its first set of passengers—including the governor and other dignitaries—to Accra, Ghana.

Speaking during a brief ceremony at the airport prior to takeoff, the minister noted that it takes vision and determination to see through a project that began over 27 years ago.

Keyamo described the facility as a world-class transit hub and highlighted its economic and social significance to both the state and the nation.

“This airport is not just one of many or merely a terminal building, but a world-class transit hub with immense impact. With this facility, passengers can transfer flights from international to international, domestic to international, and international to domestic.

“This kind of service does not exist in any sub-national entity in the country—only here. It is not just the best; it is the only one of its kind, a true pacesetter,” Keyamo said.

In his remarks, Governor Eno attributed the project’s success to the visionary leadership of successive administrations.

“It has indeed been a relay race of impactful leadership from Obong Victor Attah, to Chief Godswill Akpabio, to Mr. Udom Emmanuel, and now to me. Each has contributed exceptionally to our collective good,” he said.

The governor also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and timely release of funds to sub-national governments, enabling the execution of major projects such as the Victor Attah International Airport.

He further appreciated the minister for his role in achieving the airport’s international status.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Finance and Supervising Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Emem Bob, thanked Governor Eno for his foresight and determination in upgrading the airport.

In their separate remarks, the Managing Director of Ibom Airport Development Company, Engr. Uwem Ekanem; the Chief Executive Officer of Ibom Air, Engr. George Uriese; and the Chairman of VKS the firm that handled the construction of the new terminal Engr. Oliver Ebong, all commended Governor Eno for overcoming challenges and driving the project to its full potential.
