FIFA Monthly Ranking: Super Eagles Benefit From Recent Victories

The Super Eagles of Nigeria moved one place from 49th to 48th in the September  FIFA ranking released today.

In the August ranking the Super Eagles had 1,410 points. But this month the Super Eagles made additional five points.

This improvement is likely due to the two wins they recorded this month.

First, they travelled to Victoria to take on the Pirates of Seychelles in a 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Two first half goals from skipper of the day Ahmed Musa and Chidozie Awaziem and the icing on the cake by Idion Ighalo in the second half gave the Super Eagles a comfortable 0-3 victory.

Few days later, the Super Eagles storm Monrovia, the capital of Liberia for a friendly match against the Lone Stars of Liberia in honour of their President, George Oppong Weah, who won the 1995 World Best Footballer.

The Super Eagles defeated their hosts by 1-2. Henry Onyekuru and Simeon Nwankwo scored Nigeria goals in the first half before Kpah Sherman gave the home side a consolatory goal from the penalty spot.

If the Super Eagles perform well in their up-coming double header matches against Libya in October, their position will surely improve in the October ranking.
