FIFA CLUB WORLD CUP: Al Ain Destroy African Champions

Africa’s representative and CAF Champions League winners, Esperance of Tunisia have been eliminated from the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup. They were thrashed 3-0 by UAE league champions Al Ain Football Club.

The home side had earlier defeated Team Wellington on penalties before they took on the African side.

Mohamed Ahmad headed in the opener in the second minute to signal their intention to qualify for the semi-finals.

Esperance effort to restore parity yielded no result. Hussein Elshahat doubled his side’s lead on the 16th minute.

The African’s hope of fighting back was extinguished on the 60th minute when Bandar Al Ahbabi netted the third goal.

Al Ain will tackle River Plate in the first semi-finals on Tuesday.
